National Eucharistic Congress Spreads Love, Peace, and Mercy

INDIANAPOLIS — Religious leaders are in Indianapolis for the National Eucharistic Congress to encourage unity among Catholics.

“The principal of unity is our love for God,” Luke Doyle, a priest of the Archdiocese of Kansas City in Kansas. “The Eucharist is not intended to divide; it’s intended to bring the family of God together and then to give us the life, the freedom, the healing, and the grace that God can only give us.”

The National Eucharistic Congress is set to draw around 50,000 Catholics for Masses, worship, talks, and workshops centered on the Eucharist.

This is the first event like this in the U.S. in over 80 years, concluding a years-long effort by U.S. Catholic bishops to strengthen faith in the Eucharist.

Erin Lambert, a Sandford University student, traveled to Indianapolis. She says her faith is very important to her.

“Faith ebbs and flows,” she says. “You have moments of consolation and desolation, and that’s natural. Sometimes, you’ll be on a spiritual high, and that’ll be great, and you’ll feel very connected to everything and Christ, and sometimes, you won’t. My faith is everything to me.”

The congress isn’t the end of the Eucharistic Revival. In its final year, the Church will focus on spreading its message to renew the world.

Some people have told attendees that they’re not welcome in the city.

“It was a great privilege, honestly, for me to introduce myself to these people,” says Father Luke Doyle, who is visiting from Kansas City. “I’m trying to do my best to be a face of mercy, love, and unity for them.”
