INDIANAPOLIS — Three Indiana gubernatorial candidates will participate in a televised debate in October.

According to a press release, Republican Mike Braun, Democrat Jennifer McCormick and Libertarian Donald Rainwater will debate live at WFYI — the public TV station in Indianapolis — on Oct. 24 at 7 p.m.

The Indiana Debate Commission will organize the event. The IDC indicated it will make a live feed of the debate available to media outlets statewide in an effort to reach more Hoosier voters.

Laura Merrifield Wilson — a political science professor and host of the WICR radio show “Positively Politics” — will moderate the debate.

The IDC was founded in 2007. Per a release, the organization is non-partisan, statewide and volunteer-based. The IDC is the oldest independent and non-partisan debate commission in the nation.

Not counting October’s event, the IDC has hosted 11 general election debates featuring Indiana’s gubernatorial candidates since 2008.

“The Indiana Debate Commission looks forward to hosting a fair and informative discussion of the issues that matter most to Hoosier voters,” IDC president Elizabeth Bennion said via release. “We appreciate the candidates’ willingness to participate in a live, televised debate that helps voters statewide understand the candidates’ positions and cast an informed vote.”

The IDC will also make October’s debate available on its website .

FOX59 and CBS4 are slated to hold a debate with Indiana’s gubernatorial candidates on Oct. 2 at 7 p.m.

FOX59 and CBS4 already hosted a debate that featured four of Indiana’s Republican gubernatorial candidates in March. Braun officially became Indiana’s Republican gubernatorial candidate by winning a primary election in May .
