Big Ten Makes Major Announcement On Conference Championship Game Location

Big Ten football runs through Indianapolis. Even though there isn’t a school located in the Circle City, that’s where the Big Ten Champion has been crowned ever since the first conference championship game in 2011. There’s never been a Big Ten Conference championship game played anywhere else but Lucas Oil Stadium and it will stay that way for the next four years at least.

One of the first announcements by Big Ten Commissioner Tony Petitti when he stepped up to the podium at 2024 Big Ten Football Media Days was the extension of the partnership between the conference and Lucas Oil Stadium.

“I am proud to announce today that Lucas Oil Stadium will be the home of the Big Ten football championship game for another four seasons, through 2028," Petitti said.

That extension will keep the conference championship game in Indy from 2025-2028, with the 2024 game already confirmed as the first conference championship game to air on CBS. This comes after the Michigan Wolverines won three straight games in that building ahead of their national championship win to cap off the 2023 season.

Michigan’s athletic director Warde Manuel was named the Big Ten Athletic Director of the Year following the announcement. Another feather in the cap for Manuel in Lucas Oil Stadium, and there’s no doubt his team is looking for more, especially after being voted to finish fourth in the conference on Monday.
