The Washington Township School board approved a new principal for North Central High School after losing its previous principal just last month.

Jagga Rent, the former principal at Hamilton Southeastern Intermediate Junior High School, was approved to be the district’s new high school principal during Wednesday night’s board meeting.

Late last month, previous North Central principal Daniel Mendez announced he was retiring from his position to spend more time with his family.

Rent has worked in various administrative roles in Hamilton Southeastern, he also was a principal at Monument Lighthouse College Prep Academy, an Indianapolis charter school that closed in 2014.

He's also been a teacher and dean of students at Indianapolis Metropolitan High School , a charter school for students with alternative needs.

Washington Township’s chief academic and DEI officer, Nataki Pettigrew, said in a statement that she is confident Rent’s leadership at North Central will lead to great achievements.

“Mr. Rent brings a wealth of experience and a visionary approach that aligns with our district's strategic goals and the unique needs of our diverse educational community,” Pettigrew said.

Rent received his bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in Educational Administration from Ball State University .

“I am eager to contribute to the school's rich tradition and history of excellence,” Rent said in a statement. “I look forward to collaborating with the Washington Township community to continue their legacy of success.”

Rent now marks the third new principal North Central has had in the last two years.

Mendez was hired last April after the school’s previously long-time principal, Evans Branigan III, was suddenly placed on leave in March 2023 following allegations “involving verbal misconduct and failure to implement District protocols regarding a student discipline matter,” according to a statement released by the district at the time.
