What should people expect from the Indianapolis Colts during the 2024 NFL Training Camp session? Let’s talk more about the team inside the post! (Mykal McEldowney-USA TODAY Sports)

Indianapolis Colts 2024 NFL Training Camp Preview

It’s 2024. Chris Ballard still has a job in the NFL and Trey doesn’t. It’s 2024 and Blake Bortles has still won the AFC South more recently than Ballard. Maybe that will finally change this year (I’m considering betting Indy actually). Let’s get this team over with. Here is your Colts 2024 NFL Training Camp preview!

    Three Position Battles To Watch:

1: RB2: Trey Sermon, Evan Hull, Tyler Goodson

Zack Moss did a hell of a job last year. Nobody can deny it. Now Moss is in Cincinnati and the Colts need answers behind Jonathan Taylor. Of course, Taylor missed parts of last year and should be good to go this year. Still, he can’t take every rep. Who will win the primary backup job? It looks like Sermon is in the lead for that spot but things can change.

2: DE: Kwity Paye, Laiatu Latu, Tyquan Lewis, Samson Ebukam, Dayo Odeyingbo, Isaiah Land, Genard Avery

The Colts have a bounty of pass rushers. Too many bodies and not enough playing time for everyone. How’s it going to shake up? What’s going to happen when Latu busts and can’t crack the lineup? It should be interesting. The more fascinating part is why did they decide to bring back Gus Bradley? That was… dumb.

3: TE: Jelani Woods, Kylen Granson, Mo Alie-Cox, Will Mallory, Eric Tomlinson

Chris Ballard special. He’s drafted a bunch of tight ends and gotten virtually zero production. Can someone tell me the last Colts tight end that was fantasy relevant? Dallas Clark? Anybody else? Jelani Woods has the best chance to change that narrative after some flashes as a rookie.

    Rookie To Watch: AD Mitchell

Mitchell fell in the draft and then Ballard found a way to cry about it despite the fact that he fell in his lap. Nonsense aside, the former Texas product is intriguing for a lot of reasons .

    Ready to Breakout: Anthony Richardson

This answer would be easier if Chris Ballard knew how to draft but we know that’s not the case. So instead I’ll go with the obvious answer. Shane Steichen built an offense around Jalen Hurts. That means he can probably do it again with Richardson. It’s hard not to be a Steichen believer. Richardson just needs to do his part and stay healthy. Something that didn’t happen last year.

    Fantasy Sleeper: Josh Downs

I compared Downs to Santana Moss coming out and the vibes were starting to get real in the second half of the season. The year-two player from UNC had 773 yards as a rookie. Something that didn’t really get talked about. I still hear about how wonderful Brandon Aiyuk is and Downs just had more receiving yards than he did as a rookie. #politics.
