    Thunderstorm watches in effect in central Indiana

    INDIANAPOLIS — A thunderstorm watch in effect in much of central Indiana.

    Around 8:50 p.m., the National Weather Service issued a thunderstorm watch that spanned as far west as Hendricks County and as far east as Henry County. The impacted area impacted also stretched from Howard County to some counties in northern Kentucky.

    The thunderstorm watches are expected to be active through 4 a.m. Tuesday.

    The watches were issued during a night chockful of severe weather across central Indiana. In Madison County, the NWS confirmed via a radar that a tornado had touched down near Anderson.

    The system in Madison County harmed two homes, though the extent of the damage is unknown. Frankton-Lapel Community Schools’ administration building also sustained heavy damage to its roof and walls.

    According to the Madison County Emergency Management Authority, most of the damage caused by Monday’s storms was found in the area surrounding County Road 300 North and County Road 600 West.

    In Henry County, one FOX59/CBS4 viewer observed a tree that had fallen and struck two cars on Morton Street in New Castle.

    As of this article’s publication, the NWS had not confirmed whether or not a tornado actually touched down in Henry County. Another FOX59/CBS4 viewer, however, spotted storm clouds forming over Henry County Monday night.

    The drone video at the top of this story, which was captured by FOX59/CBS4 viewer Tim Adams, showed clouds swirling in Wayne County.

    In total, tornado watches were issued in more than five counties Monday night, including Madison, Delaware, Franklin, Butler, Wayne, Fayette, Union and Henry Counties

    Severe thunderstorm warnings were issued in Hamilton, Delaware, Madison, Henry, Owen and Monroe Counties.

    As of this article’s publication, the NWS had not issued any additional notifications related to Monday night’s storms.
