UPDATE 8/1/2024: IMPD confirmed Thursday night that after consulting with the Marion County Coroner’s Office, the victim in this case was not shot. Instead, the cause of death is blunt force trauma caused by a vehicle accident.

INDIANAPOLIS — A crash with an IndyGo bus that left one woman dead has been ruled a homicide by IMPD.

The unsolved killing took place in the Riverside neighborhood on Indy’s near northwest side. Almost a month later, it’s still not clear who is responsible for the death or why.

Looking at the wreckage of a red Pontiac torn apart following a crash with an IndyGo bus near 18th and north Harding the morning after the Fourth of July, it’s no surprise Treasure Gray didn’t survive.

Police said from the very beginning that detectives believed the victim was hit by gunfire, but they now believe all her injuries were the result of the crash. The case is still being investigated as a homicide because the victim may have been chased and shot at leading up to the deadly crash.

“It’s like an emotional roller coaster since July 5th. I live it every day,” said the victim’s sister Jerica Gray.

Treasure’s family set up a memorial at the scene of the crash last month. At that time, police and the coroner’s office had not ruled the case a homicide.

The case is now listed as a homicide by IMPD.

While police told the family they do have suspects in mind, so far no one has been arrested.

“We know she’s not coming back. There’s nothing we can do, but justice needs to be served,” said Gray.

A blue Chevy also collided with the IndyGo bus, resulting in two others being injured.

Police did find a firearm inside that car, but investigators haven’t said if those people were involved in the incident.

Treasure’s family believes she was chased and shot at for several miles, starting near 38th and Keystone, and was headed to her sister’s west side home when the crash took place.

“Treasure didn’t deserve that. She didn’t deserve to be chased down and then shot,” said the victim’s sister Erica Hunter.

Still, both of Treasure’s sisters insist they don’t know for sure what motivated the violence.

“Everybody has stories to tell us about what happened the previous day and what led up to here, but nobody is saying who did it or why,” said Gray.

The family says, more than anything, they just want justice for Treasure’s daughter Elysian who turns 8-months-old on Friday.

“She knows how to say ‘mom’ now and she says ‘I want my momma’. That’s very hurtful,” said Hunter.

Anyone with information about this incident should call Detective Taylor at the IMPD Homicide Office at (317) 327-3475 or email the detective at gregory.taylor2@indy.gov .

Alternatively, they can call Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana at (317) 262-8477 or (TIPS) to remain anonymous.
