INDIANAPOLIS — On Tuesday, a trio of young friends went inside an Indianapolis home to flash, dance with and wave around a pistol while taking photos.

One of them never walked out. Another is in custody on a reckless homicide charge following his death.

Friday, Indianapolis police announced the arrest of 18-year-old Jakari Bibbs in connection with the killing of his friend, 16-year-old Nathaniel Labissiere. Police allege in newly filed court documents that the deadly shooting occurred after Bibbs pulled the trigger while pointing a firearm at the teen. He later told police he didn’t think the gun would fire.

Police responded to the shooting at 3:08 p.m. and found the injured Labissiere inside the residence, in the 4400 block of Braemar Drive. Bibbs and other witnesses were inside the home at the time and taken in for questioning, investigators stated.

Other people in the residence at the time of the shooting told police the group was taking pictures with a .22 caliber Glock 44 they acquired from the purse of one of their moms. Bibbs, they said, waved the gun around and jumped up and down while they recorded.

He then pointed the gun at each of them, the group members told police. When he pointed the firearm at Labissiere, he told him to stop and grabbed the barrel.

    The gun fired.

Security camera footage outside the home showed a young man leaving the home one minute before police were called, officers wrote in the report. Shortly later, another witness was seen in the footage running outside screaming and crying. Bibbs followed shortly later.

A deadly Indianapolis trend: '100% preventable': Indiana kids killed by unsecured guns hits record. Would new laws help?

During interviews with detectives, Bibbs said he was playing with the gun and pointed it at Labissiere.

He pulled the trigger, he said, and “was surprised the gun fired because he thought he had unloaded it.”

The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office will determine final charges.

It's unclear if the mother who left the firearm accessible will face charges.
