240-acre Autonomous and Connected Track planned for Rantoul to receive $48M in funding
The Grainger College of Engineering is known for many things in the realm of innovation and technology, and transportation has been the topic of discussion lately. With the help of funding from the US Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Federal Railroad Administration (FRA), National University Rail Center of Excellence (NURail CoE) was recently launched at Grainger. This year, there’s been more information released about the Autonomous and Connected Track planned for Rantoul through the work of the Illinois Center for Transportation, with the transfer of a portion Chanute Airforce Base last year in order to build this 240-acre testing facility.

In sad restaurant news, A Taste of Both Worlds, the Filipino-Cambodian restaurant inside Broadway Food Hall, is closed permanently. A Taste of Both Worlds opened at the beginning of 2021 as Champaign-Urbana’s only Filipino and Cambodian eatery. The Urbana food hall vendor served awesome banh mi, delicious sisig, tasty turon, whole tilapia, and boodle fights (a communal meal with food spread across a table) in addition to offering excellent Restaurant Week specials like this num pang burger, crispy fried chicken, and buko pandan.

Pillsbury plant artifacts recovered from fire-ravaged building at 413 E. Adams
Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – After initially believing all was lost in the fire at 413 E. Adams St. in June, Moving Pillsbury Forward has now recovered some of the Pillsbury plant artifacts from the damaged building. MPF President Chris Richmond estimates they were able to recover 30% of the art and artifact collection that was stored and exhibited on the third floor. Among the items recovered are the bicep doughboy panel, the smutters chalkboard, three custom metal grain scoops, and the service department rolodex.
