GENTRY, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — More than one million dollars is going to improve the baseball and softball fields at Gentry High School.

The school board recently approved a $1.3 million bond to pay for the upgrades which will bring new turf to the entire softball field and the infield portion of the baseball field.

Gentry Superintendent Tyler Broyles said the district and city have seen tremendous growth recently.

“Responding to the growth is what we’re doing by improving our facilities because if we’re not making our facilities and our product, which is education, attractive for our students then they’re not going to want to stay here or come here,” Broyles said.

This project is expected to be done later this fall.

The school is working on another project to improve the football field and track, which has a price tag of about $3.9 million. The project is expected to be done by the beginning of August.
