Gary Oldman is moving fast in the new season of “Slow Horses.”

The Academy Award winner returns to the Emmy-nominated series for Season 4 of the darkly humorous espionage drama as Jackson Lamb, the brilliant but misanthropic leader of a group of dysfunctional spies who end up in the misfit MI5 department known as Slough House.

Season 4 “opens with a bombing that detonates personal secrets, rocking the already unstable foundations of Slough House,” per the official logline .

Kristin Scott Thomas, Jack Lowden, Saskia Reeves, Rosalind Eleazar, Christopher Chung, Aimee-Ffion Edwards, Kadiff Kirwan, and Jonathan Pryce return to the series. The upcoming season also marks the series debuts for Hugo Weaving, Joanna Scanlan, Ruth Bradley, Tom Brooke, and James Callis, who all join the cast.

“Slow Horses” will premiere globally on Wednesday, September 4 with the first episode, followed by one new episode weekly, every Wednesday through October 9, on Apple TV+.

“Slow Horses” recently scored nine Emmy Award nominations for its third season, including Outstanding Drama Series and acting nominations for Oldman (Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series), Lowden (Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series), and Pryce (Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series).

The series also earned nominations in the following categories: Outstanding Casting for a Drama Series, Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series, Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series: Saul Metzstein, Outstanding Picture Editing for a Drama Series, and Outstanding Music Composition for a Series (Original Dramatic Score).

“Slow Horses” first debuted in 2022 and has won two BAFTA Television Awards while earning nine additional nominations.

“Slow Horses” is produced for Apple TV+ by See-Saw Films and adapted for television by Will Smith (“Veep”). Jamie Laurenson, Hakan Kousetta, Iain Canning, Emile Sherman, Jane Robertson, Julian Stevens, Douglas Urbanski, Gail Mutrux, Graham Yost, and Will Smith serve as executive producers on the series. Adam Randall directs Season 4.

Apple TV+ previously announced a fifth season set to be adapted from the fifth novel, “London Rules.”

Lead star Oldman told IndieWire that he would be open to starring in eight seasons of the novel series adaptation, if possible.

“If this were to be the last thing I do — and it’s up to Apple whether they keep us on the air, because they write the checks — but if they’re happy to keep us on the air, then I’m very happy to do this and do all eight books,” Oldman said. “And since we started, [Mick Herron] has written another one, so who knows? Maybe it’ll be nine books, and I’ll be happy to play Jackson Lambe [in all of them.]”

“Slow Horses” Season 4 premieres September 4 on Apple TV+. Check out the trailer below.
