Chappell Roan Thinks ‘Actors Are F**king Crazy’ and Would Rather ‘Get Arrested’ Than Be in Movies

That’s Chappell as in CHAPEL, not CHAPELLE. Get it right. While it may be a “Brat”-summer for most, there’s no denying the unrelenting energy 26 year-old singer-songwriter Chappell Roan has thrust upon society with hit songs like “HOT TO GO!” and “Pink Pony Club.” It is truly her world and we’re just dancing along, but in a recent chat with “ Saturday Night Live ” player and “Las Culturistas” host Bowen Yang for Interview Magazine , Roan admits that, despite the doors her newfound fame is opening, she is solely focused on her music career at the moment.

When asked if acting may be in her future, Roan said to Yang, “I say this with peace, and love, and blessings: Actors are fucking crazy.”

Yang couldn’t help but agree, but Roan was quick to acknowledge that he stands apart.

“I don’t know you, but I know that you’re not the vibe I’m talking about,” she said. “Like, I get so freaked out by film people. I’ve been asked in the past couple of weeks, like, ‘You want the lead in XYZ?’ and I’m like, ‘No.'”

Ironically, Roan went on to say how she started her music career as a means to get into acting, but upon moving to Los Angeles and getting a sense of the film industry, she realized singing is what she preferred to pursue.

“I originally started doing music because I wanted to get my foot in the door for acting, and then I moved to Los Angeles, and I was like, ‘Fuck that,'” Roan said. “ The industry is legitimately so scary , and it is so out of my control. I can put out music whenever I want. I don’t have to wait for a casting director to be like, ‘It would be great if we cast you, and then we’ll decide your schedule for the next three months.'”

Despite her disinterest in leading a film project, Roan did say she’d be interested in a cameo for something “really specific and really silly” and that despite her fears, she does have training as an actress.

“I’ve been trained how to act, but it’s the most stressful thing in the world to me,” Roan said to Yang for Interview Magazine. “I would rather get arrested.”

Roan’s album is No. 2 behind Taylor Swift on the Billboard 200. And while Swift has been acting for years, with roles in “Valentine’s Day” and “Amsterdam,” the music icon is instead turning to writing and directing her first feature for Focus.
