Just as “BoJack Horseman” celebrates its 10th anniversary since first premiering on Netflix and helping the streamer expand our definition of adult animation, the company has announced it has ordered a new animated comedy from creator and executive producer Raphael Bob-Waksberg called “Long Story Short.” In addition to re-teaming with Netflix, Bob-Waksberg is also working with longtime collaborators Tornante Television and ShadowMachine on the series.

The official synopsis for the show reads, “‘Long Story Short’ is an animated comedy about a family, over time. It’s about the shared history, the inside jokes, the old wounds. If you’ve ever had a mother, father, sibling, partner, or child, this is the show for you and by the way would it kill you to call them?”

Bob-Waksberg will write, showrun, and executive produce alongside Noel Bright and Stephen A. Cohen from Tornante. They’re joined by supervising producer Lisa Hanawalt, who was largely responsible for the look of “BoJack” and created the Bob-Waksberg produced “Tuca & Bertie.” Netflix cancelled the latter show following its first season, but the show found a new home on Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim for its last two seasons. Corey Campodonico and Alex Bulkley of animation studio ShadowMachine also serve as co-executive producers.

No cast or release date has been announced for “Long Story Short” as of yet.

Speaking on this re-teaming, Bob-Waksberg said in a statement, “It is legitimately a thrill and an honor to be back doing what I love most: drafting enthusiastic pull quotes for press releases to Hollywood trade publications. Who says you can’t go home again?!”

“BoJack Horseman” premiered on August 22, 2014 and ran for six seasons, receiving three Writers Guild of America Awards, three Annie Awards, and multiple Emmy nominations over the course of its run. The show featured a star-studded voice cast that included Will Arnett, Aaron Paul, Alison Brie, Amy Sedaris, and Paul F. Tompkins, as well as guest stars such as Stanley Tucci, Angelica Huston, Kristen Schaal, Olivia Wilde, and many more. IndieWire has listed the show as both one of the best animated series on Netflix and the greatest animated series of all time.

Outside of “BoJack” and “Tuca & Bertie,” Bob-Waksberg also created and executive produced the Amazon Prime Video series “Undone,” which utilized rotoscope style animation and was also produced by Tornante. The series lasted two seasons and was led by Rose Salazar and Bob Odenkirk.
