The Tribeca Festival is officially going international.

IndieWire can confirm that the inaugural Tribeca Festival Lisboa will take place from October 17 to 19 in Lisbon, Portugal. The Tribeca Festival Lisboa lineup has been unveiled, featuring the Portuguese premieres of “Anora,” “Ezra,” “Jazzy,” and “Group Therapy.”

Tribeca Festival Lisboa will showcase eight U.S. films, including top winners from Tribeca 2024 such as Nicholas Colia’s “Griffin in Summer,” Sean Baker’s Palme d’Or-winning feature “Anora,” Sundance breakout “In the Summers,” and the heart-wrenching SXSW drama “Bob Trevino Likes It.”

The international premiere of “A Bronx Tale, The Original One Man Show” followed by a talkback with writer, director, and star Chazz Palminteri will also take place.

A special screening of the highly-anticipated Portuguese series “Azul,” César Mourão’s feature narrative “Podia Ter Esperado Por Agosto,” the world premiere of “Unicorn,” and screenings of short films such as “Era Uma Vez No Apocalipse,” “Os Sonhos Continuam,” and “O Afinador de Silêncios” round out the lineup.

“Twenty-two years ago, Jane Rosenthal and I founded the Tribeca Festival to help revitalize lower Manhattan through the power of film, art, and storytelling. This mission remains our North Star,” Tribeca co-founder Robert De Niro said in a press statement. “Each year, we aim to unify communities, ignite creativity, and inspire new waves of innovation. It means a great deal to us to bring this same spirit to Lisbon — a city bursting with renewed cultural and economic promise.”

The first-ever Tribeca Festival Lisboa is presented by Tribeca Enterprises, Portuguese broadcast company SIC, its streaming platform OPTO, and the City of Lisbon. The festival will highlight U.S. independent films, Portuguese films, TV series, podcasts, and music, as well as live talks with “international and local stars,” per the press release.

Panels include discussions of the impact of AI on filmmaking, representation in media and entertainment, the future of streaming, and the craft of great storytelling. De Niro, Whoopi Goldberg, Patty Jenkins, Griffin Dunne, and Chazz Palminteri are among the panelists, plus Ricardo Araújo Pereira, Daniela Ruah, and César Mourão.

“For more than two decades, Tribeca has passionately championed independent filmmakers and emerging talent from across the globe,” Tribeca co-founder and CEO Jane Rosenthal, who will also be a panel guest, said. “We’re proud to continue the tradition this fall, bringing the best of American independent cinema to Portugal, while also partnering with the City of Lisbon and the team at Grupo Impresa to showcase the country’s rising talent.”

Attendees also can look forward to live recordings of one of Portugal’s most popular podcast series – “Geração 70,” “Geração 80,” and “Geração 90” — as well Ricardo Araújo Pereira’s podcast “Coisa Que Não Edifica Nem Destrói,” which returns for a second season this fall.

“This October, Tribeca Festival Lisboa will be the must-attend event, bringing together visionary talent from around the world to celebrate and explore the art of storytelling in all its forms,” Francisco Pedro Pinto Balsemão, the CEO of Grupo Impresa, said. “The collaboration between SIC, OPTO, and Tribeca promises to be a cultural force, offering our local Portuguese talent the visibility and international recognition they deserve.”

Lisbon Mayor Carlos Moedas added, “Lisbon was recently recognized as the most innovative city in Europe, surpassing more than 250 cities — a milestone few thought possible. By hosting the first European edition of the Tribeca Festival, we have solidified our position as the go-to destination in Europe for lovers of culture, art, and innovation. I want to extend my heartfelt gratitude to Robert De Niro, Jane Rosenthal, and the entire Tribeca team for choosing Lisbon. This choice is a direct acknowledgment of the incredible journey the city has embarked on over the past three years, making it one of the most attractive cities in the world.”

Tribeca has also rolled out its Tribeca Membership program stateside, with film and TV premieres followed by conversations with the filmmakers, creators, and stars. The events are available exclusively for members to experience arts and entertainment programming year-round. Upcoming highlights include the Season 2 premiere of fan favorite Paramount+ series “Tulsa King” and the New York premiere of fellow Paramount+’s “Apartment 7A.”
