It’s television’s biggest night, and it’s posed to be a record-breaking one if contenders like “Shōgun” and “The Bear” continue expected sweeps.
The Emmys Could've Been an Email
The way of things was signaled at the 2024 Creative Arts Emmys September 7 and 8 when “ Shōgun ” broke records grabbing 14 trophies, sweeping every category except the main title theme and original score. “ Shōgun ” took casting, cinematography, period costumes, editing, period/fantasy production design, period/fantasy hairstyling, main title design, non-prosthetic period/fantasy/sci-fi makeup, prosthetic makeup, sound editing, sound mixing, special visual effects, and stunt performance, and broke a record previously held by “Game of Thrones.”
Tonight, the FX drama is nominated for Best Drama series, among a slew of acting nominations where it looks to continue its stunning run.
On the comedy side, defending champ “The Bear,” also FX, will take on the third season of Max’s “Hacks,” among other contenders like “Abbott Elementary,” and the final season of “Curb Your Enthusiasm.” Remember, due to eligibility dates the second season of “The Bear” (the one with “Fishes”) is the season actually being considered, not the more recent third season about Carmy and Co. that premiered in June 2024. Awards! Sometimes they can be confusing.
Expect to see stars like Reese Witherspoon, Jennifer Aniston, Andrew Scott, and more at the ceremony tonight — all are nominees for their TV work this year.

This year’s fun twist of sorts will be that the Emmy presenters will be grouped by categories — think “favorite TV moms” or “favorite TV detectives.” Already announced Emmy presenters include Kathy Bates, Zach Braff, Nicola Coughlan, Billy Crystal, Viola Davis, Giancarlo Esposito, Colin Farrell, Allison Janney, Mindy Kaling, Padma Lakshmi, John Leguizamo, Niecy Nash-Betts, Henry Winkler, Bowen Yang, Steven Yeun and many more.
