A 21-year-old Mecca resident died Monday after his car collided with a pole in Indio the night before.

Indio Police Department spokesman Benjamin Guitron said an accident where a car rolled over was reported around 10:36 p.m. Sunday in front of the Palm Shadow Inn at 80-761 Highway 111, near Youngs Lane. It appears the driver may have lost control of his car, hit a Spectrum pole and then was ejected, he said.

The Riverside County Coroner's office identified the driver as Andrew Reyes. He was transported to the hospital, where he later died.

Guitron said police are still investigating but preliminarily don't know if drugs or alcohol were involved. There were no other reported injuries or cars involved.

Guitron asked anyone with information about the accident to call the Indio Police Department at 760-391-4051.
