The National Weather Service in Indianapolis shared that there is a moderate to major heat risk today with unseasonably hot and humid conditions expected.
"High temperatures in the lower and middle 90s and dew point temperatures in the 70s will produce heat index values as high as 105 degrees or slightly higher," NWS said in a special weather statement .
What counties are included in the heat risk?
The following counties are included in the special weather statement from NWS regarding the heat risk: Bartholomew, Boone, Brown, Carroll, Clay, Clinton, Daviess, Decatur, Delaware, Fountain, Greene, Hamilton, Hancock, Hendricks, Henry, Howard, Jackson, Jennings, Johnson, Knox, Lawrence, Madison, Marion, Martin, Monroe, Montgomery, Morgan, Owen, Parke, Putnam, Randolph, Rush, Shelby, Sullivan, Tippecanoe, Tipton, Vermillion, Vigo and Warren.
How do you stay safe in hot and humid conditions?
NWS recommends staying hydrated and staying inside where it is air conditioned and away from the sun.
Experts also recommend avoiding outdoor activities all-together. If you have to go outside, wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activity to the early morning or evening when the temperature should be lowest for the day.
It is never safe to leave a child, disabled person or pet locked in a car, but this is especially important to remember on warm or hot days.

What do you do if you see someone experiencing heat stroke?
Heat stroke is a medical emergency, so if you see someone showing signs of illness, it is important to act quickly.
The symptoms of heat stroke include: Throbbing headache, confusion, nausea, dizziness, body temperature above 103°F, hot, red, dry or damp skin, rapid and strong pulse, fainting, loss of consciousness.
If you see anyone with symptoms of heat stroke, move them to a shaded area and call 911.

Will Indy get more severe weather?
NWS Indianapolis shared on X, formerly Twitter, that more severe storms are possible Monday night, with an additional threat of damaging winds and isolated brief tornadoes.
A hazardous weather outlook has also been issued for Central Indiana, which states that thunderstorms may continue through Wednesday night, with severe storms possible Tuesday night.
