INDIANAPOLIS – Lightning the night prior delayed the result, but Class 6A sixth-ranked Brownsburg finished the job against 6A No. 3 Cathedral on Saturday afternoon.

Up 17-7 before play was halted Friday with 2 minutes, 16 seconds remaining until halftime, the Bulldogs (2-0) picked up right where they left off at Marian University’s St. Vincent Field to win 30-14.

IHSAA football scores: Week 2 Friday night lights move to Saturday

A pair of touchdowns Saturday and a stingy defensive showing that thwarted four of five Cathedral offensive series kept the Bulldogs unbeaten on the season and secured their second straight victory over the Irish (1-1).

Play of the Game: Cathedral’s Aden Chase had the defensive highlight of the game, picking off Brownsburg quarterback Iosua Stephens on Friday night at Cathedral’s 1-yard line, as the Bulldogs challenged on 4th-and-6 from the 17 in the second quarter.

However, both touchdown catches by Brownsburg’s Avin Robinson proved clutch in the grand scheme. Robinson’s first TD grab showcased his athleticism, as he beat 1-on-1 coverage and broke free in the end zone to give his team a 10-0 lead. With the Irish threatening only down 24-14, Robinson capped Brownsburg’s final scoring drive in the third quarter with another swift move to beat his lone defender. Robinson pulled in a 34-yard strike thrown by sophomore quarterback Oscar Frye to essentially put the game away.

Top Performer: Brownsburg junior wide receiver Avin Robinson amassed 95 yards receiving on four catches with a touchdown on Friday night. Once the game resumed, the 6-foot, 185-pound playmaker went to work again, hauling in five more receptions for another 99 yards and one more score. Robinson finished with nine catches for 194 yards and two touchdowns measuring 28 and 34 yards. His longest catch of the game covered 44 yards.

Turning Point: It’s not how you start but how you restart. Brownsburg led 17-7 entering Saturday’s completion and came out motivated from the first play. A quick pass from Oscar Frye to Robinson for 20 yards set the tone, and four plays later the duo connected for 45 yards on 1st-and-10 from Cathedral’s 46. A 1-yard run by Brady Lewis for his second rushing TD pushed the margin to 24-7 before halftime. Frye completed 11 of 15 passes for 213 yards and two touchdowns in a timeshare with senior QB Iosua Stephens.
