Caitlin Clark picks up sixth technical foul, is now one away from 1-game suspension

INDIANAPOLIS — Caitlin Clark is one whistle away from a one-game suspension.

The Fever rookie picked up her sixth technical foul of the season Friday night against the Las Vegas Aces . She slapped the stanchion following a foul call against her, leading to both a personal foul and a technical.

Clark is now tied for second in the league for technical fouls, along with Mercury guards Diana Taurasi and Kahleah Copper. Mercury guard Natasha Cloud leads the league with seven and has been suspended for a game already this season.

This was Clark's first tech in nearly a month; before Friday night, she last picked up a techncial on Aug. 18 against the Seattle Storm.

Now, the rookie will have to tread lightly for the final two games of the regular season. If she picks up a seventh technical foul, she will be suspended for one game. That rule, however, only applies to the Fever's game against Dallas on Sunday and their regular-season finale against Washington on Thursday.

According to a Fever spokesperson, the technical foul rule resets for the playoffs. So, Clark would not be suspended if she picks up one in the first round of the playoffs in two weeks.

In the WNBA, a player is suspended for one game after they pick up seven technical fouls in one season. After that initial suspension, they're suspended again for every other technical they get (9th, 11th, 13th, etc). Players also have mounting fines for each technical — $200 each for techs 1-3, $400 each for techs 4-6 and $800 each for seven and more.
