After an interesting — and, at times, confusing — presidential debate, vice presidential candidates Tim Walz and JD Vance are set to face off Tuesday, Oct. 1, NBC News recently announced.

In the Sept. 10 debate between current Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump, the candidates tackled issues including foreign policy and the unfounded claims by the Republican candidates that immigrants in Springfield, Ohio, have kidnapped and eaten pets. The rumors, which stemmed from Vance's viral comments before that debate, have caused safety concerns in the community .

Walz went viral for a completely different reason. As he accepted the vice presidential nomination at the Democratic National Convention in August, his son, Gus, was moved by his words and his tearful reaction was televised. That led to some negative online comments about Gus , who has a nonverbal learning disorder, outraging advocates for children with disabilities.

Vance, a Republican senator, and Walz, the Democratic governor of Minnesota, will take the debate stage at 9 p.m. on Oct. 1 in New York City. Here's everything else you need to know.

Who are the moderators for the Oct. 1 vice presidential debate?

The debate will be moderated by "CBS Evening News" anchor and managing editor Norah O'Donnell and "Face the Nation" moderator and CBS News foreign affairs correspondent Margaret Brennan, the network announced last month.
