A documentary on the case of a fugitive couple nabbed in Evansville will start streaming on Netflix this week.

Alabama's Casey White and Vicky White seized national headlines before their capture in Evansville in 2022. Their story is the subject of "Jailbreak: Love on the Run," premiering on the streaming service Sept. 25.

The 90-minute documentary includes footage of the Whites' dramatic capture just off U.S. 41 on May 9, 2022.

In 2022, Casey was a convicted felon serving a 75-year sentence in Alabama's Lauderdale County jail. Vicky was a jailer who reportedly fell in love with him and helped him escape. The couple was unmarried and unrelated, but had a last name in common.

While multiple law enforcement agencies scanned the country for any sign of them, the couple had been holed up in Motel 41 for a week, eating pizza and plotting their next move. Evansville, Vanderburgh County and federal authorities eventually tracked them to the motel after footage emerged of Casey White standing in the bay of a South Side car wash alongside a truck they'd bought in Tennessee for $6,000.

The trailer features interviews with law enforcement and several of Vicky White's acquaintances.

    'It's a disgusting romance novel'

The documentary follows how Vicky White, a straight-laced woman in her mid-50s, upended her life to go on the run with a suspected murderer. "It's a disgusting romance novel, is what it is," one of the interviewees says in the trailer.

The security camera showed Casey leaving with Vicky in their replacement car: a gray 2007 Cadillac they'd purchased in town using cash and fake names. And when the Whites left their room and climbed into the car the afternoon of their capture, authorities drove behind them as they pulled onto the highway.

Things soon escalated into a short car chase that ended when the Whites sped onto a grassy area outside a nearby business and were rammed by a police vehicle. Vicky White, 56, shot herself soon after the collision, authorities said. She later died at Deaconess Hospital.

Casey was extradited to Alabama and charged with first-degree prison escape and felony murder in connection with Vicky White’s death. The latter charge was dropped after he took a plea deal, and he was eventually sentenced to life in prison . Casey White had been slated to stand trial for the suspected murder of Alabama woman Connie Ridgeway, but the case was suspended in the wake of his life sentence.

"Jailbreak: Love on the Run" is from lead production company Law & Crime, along with The Cut Production, which was behind Netflix true-crime documentaries on the Boston Marathon bombing and the Waco disaster.

The documentary also includes security footage of the couple inside Lauderdale County jail; body camera footage of Casey's arrest; intimate phone calls between the two; and the tragedy along an Evansville roadside.
