One of the state’s top high school basketball players is on the mend from a foot injury.

Jeffersonville senior Tre Singleton, a 6-8 forward with offers from Notre Dame and Purdue , among others, is recovering from a broken bone in his right foot suffered earlier this month during a workout. Jeffersonville coach Sherron Wilkerson said Singleton had a plate and four screws inserted into his foot during surgery and could be back “in eight to 12 weeks depending on how quickly he heals.”

Singleton is nearing the end of a recruitment that exploded after a junior year that saw him average 14.2 points, 7.1 rebounds and 3.0 assists for a Jeffersonville team that finished 20-8 and come within a one-point loss to Ben Davis in the semistate championship of reaching the Class 4A state championship.

Singleton is taking an official visit to Notre Dame this weekend, followed by a visit to Virginia. He took an official visit to Purdue two weeks ago, which followed official visits to Louisville, Northwestern and Clemson. When he cut his list to eight schools in August, he had those six plus Butler and Xavier in the mix.

Preseason No. 1? Loaded Jeffersonville sends a message at Charlie Hughes.

Jeffersonville is expected to be one of the top contenders in Class 4A this season. The Red Devils, a 20-8 team last year, also return senior guards Michael Cooper (16.4 ppg, 4.4 rebounds, 2.4 assists, 41% 3-pointers) and P.J. Douglas (13.8 ppg, 5.6 rebounds, 2.3 assists). Cooper and Douglas have both committed to Wright State.

Wilkerson said the injury happened when Singleton landed awkwardly during a 1-on-1 fast break drill. There is enough time that Wilkerson is hopeful to get him back early in the season. Jeffersonville plays in Forum Tipoff Classic at Southport against Noblesville on Dec. 14 and in the Hall of Fame Classic at New Castle on Dec. 28 with Warsaw, Fishers and Greenfield-Central.

Singleton would appear to be a surefire Indiana All-Stars selection and potential IndyStar Mr. Basketball contender going into the season.
