Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson spoke to the media about his injury today: How do you feel?

“I feel good. I’m still a little sore, but better than after the game, so that’s good news right there.”

Are you going to practice today?

“No, not today. They’re holding me out today. Still a little bit of soreness, but we’ll just see how I feel tomorrow.”

( UPDATE: Richardson was in pads and throwing during the portion of practice available to the media. It's likely he's a limited participant in practice.)

Coach said you don’t need to practice to play? How important is it to you to play?

“It’s definitely an important game, a divisional game, and then going back to Florida, that’s my home state, so I always want to play down there. But like Coach said, I don’t have to necessarily practice to play. We’re just taking it day by day, just seeing how I’m feeling and seeing if I’m ready to roll out there on Sunday.”

What will tell you that you’re ready to practice again?

“Whenever my body lets me know that I’m good. That’s really the main thing we’re waiting on right now. Like I said, we’ve made a lot of progress, but we’re still trying to work on certain things.”

Do you have to hold yourself back at all?

“Yeah, for sure. It’s always tough when you’re dealing with injuries because you want to fight through it. I tried to fight through it in the game and my body was like, ‘Nah, man, you’ve got to take it easy,’ so I’m working on it day by day, trying to listen to everybody and get the best advice.”

Have you tried to test it yet?

“We’ve been testing it. I worked out today, so I think that was a plus. Definitely a lot of progress from yesterday. Yesterday was giving me a little bit of soreness, but I’ve been progressing day by day. We’re just trying to see what it’ll be like the rest of the week.”

You said the acceleration was bothering you on Sunday. Is that getting better?

“A little bit. We haven’t really tested out acceleration yet, it’s really just rotation and stuff, making sure my legs are good, but it’s just day by day, that’s how we’re taking it.”

You kept your pads on, your helmet and cleats. What’s the most difficult part mentally?

“Normally, stuff like that happens and you check out of a game, but I felt like I was still in it. I felt like I was still playing. I was just trying to stay in there with my guys. I didn’t want to treat it differently than anything else, but I don’t really think it’s a big deal.”

Can taking mental reps last year help you if you aren’t able to practice fully this week?

“For sure. Every opportunity to learn something is a great opportunity. Watching backup Joe (Flacco) practice today, that’ll be something good for me, because I get to see how he reacts to the defense that we’ve got called out there. It’s just day by day honestly.”

Is the trip back to Florida more exciting?

“For sure, and then I heard that we haven’t won down there in however long. We want to change that, for sure. If I am out there, we’re definitely working to change that.”

Are you more worried about running or passing?

“Really, just both. Rotation, running, it’s honestly both. I’m just trying to fight through it day by day, stay in the training room and see if I can get better for Sunday.”

Is it fair to say you’re optimistic?

“For sure. We never had any doubt about me coming back. It’s really just up to me, how my body feels. Like I said, just taking it day by day.”

Watching those first few drives against the Steelers, it seemed like a different AR out there. What was different?

“We knew they were a great team. We believe we’re a great team as well. I just really wanted to go out there and master my game, master how I play the game. That was just delivering the ball and managing the offense. I think I did a decent job with that, but we’re still working, working on getting better, being consistent.”

People might say you’re injury-prone. What’s your response?

“It’s football. I’m pretty sure if they got out the house and came out here and got hit by somebody that’s running 20-plus miles per hour every week, I’m pretty sure they’d be sore and dealing with injuries as well. People are going to talk. That’s what people do. I’m not necessarily worried about it, I’m just focused on getting better day by day.”

Great news! Need him playing. Coach needs to stop calling running plays for him. Tell him to only run when necessary. Then, to get out of bounds or slide not to take hits if it can be avoided.
