IFD firefighters got the fire under control after combating the flames for over half an hour.

A man who lived in one of the units told IFD that he woke up to the smell of smoke and evacuated the property with his dog. The man noted that his smoke alarm did not activate as the property started to go up in flames.

The second house fire broke out at about 2:30 a.m. in the 2600 block of North Bazil Avenue .

Firefighters told local media outlets Tuesday morning that the occupant of the house was able to safely escape with a lizard, but three dogs died in the fire.
