INDIANAPOLIS -- Former Purdue star Zach Edey scored 23 points on 10 of 15 shooting and grabbed nine rebounds in his return to Indiana as the Grizzles beat the Pacers 120-116 at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in a preseason game Monday night.

The Pacers fell to 1-2 in preseason action. The Grizzlies improved to 3-1.

Richmond, Ind., native Desmond Bane matched Edey's 23 points to lead the Grizzlies. Jarace Walker scored 15 points with 12 of them in the fourth quarter to lead the Pacers. Myles Turner added 12 points and seven rebounds. Bennedict Mathurin and Ben Sheppard also added 10 points. Cole Swider and James Wiseman had 10 each.

Grizzlies 120, Pacers 116, end of fourth quarter

Jarace Walker scored 12 fourth-quarter points to make things interesting as the Pacers rallied back to within seven points with 4:20 to go, and an And-1 by Quenton Jackson in the game's final 25 seconds got the Pacers within five and then his dunk got them within four with 1.8 seconds to go but that wasn't quite enough.

    Grizzlies 108, Pacers 101, 4:20 fourth quarter

A 3-pointer by Cole Swider and a driving layup-plus-foul by Jarace Walker have the Pacers back in this one as close as they've been in this one since the first quarter.

    Grizzlies 106, Pacers 95, 6:26 fourth quarter

The Pacers started the fourth 7 of 9 from the floor with 2 of 3 3-pointers. Cole Swider hit one of those and he's got seven points, making a pretty good case for the last roster spot. Kendall Brown hasn't entered yet, which suggests but maybe doesn't guarantee that Swider has the inside track on that one.

Grizzles 91, Pacers 78, end of third quarter

The Pacers' offense improved throughout the evening but stops haven't been any easier to come by. The Grizzlies won the third period 31-29. Zach Edey had 10 points and six rebounds in the period and Memphis shot 11 of 22 from the floor.

The Pacers were 11 of 20 and James Wiseman scored 10 points in the third period on 5 of 5 shooting, but he also couldn't slow down Edey when he was out there.

    Grizzlies 84, Pacers 71, 3:35 third quarter

The Pacers continue to struggle and Edey is putting on even more of a show. He's got 21 points and nine rebounds and the Grizzlies are shooting over 50% and putting up 1.23 points per possessions.

    Grizzlies 73, Pacers 58; 7:12 third quarter

Myles Turner and Obi Toppin are apparently done for the night and Rick Carlisle put James Wiseman on the floor to try to combat Edey's size. Wiseman hasn't done a great job of matching Edey's force.

Edey has four points and and five rebounds in the first five minutes of the second half.

    Grizzlies 60, Pacers 49, Halftime

After excellent performances on Thursday against the Cavaliers, Bennedict Mathurin and Jarace Walker are in the starting lineup tonight and they're both struggling, Mathurin in particular. He's 0 of 4 from the floor so far with two points on free throws and his primary defensive assignment has been Desmond Bane, who has a game-high 18 points at the break. Walker has had some better moments, including a 3-pointer, two rebounds and two assists, but he also has three turnovers.

Turnovers have been an issue across the board as the Pacers have eight of them, which have turned into 13 Grizzlies points. That's added to their overall offensive issues as they are shooting 17 of 39 from the floor (43.6%) including 6 of 16 from 3 with 0.97 points per possession. Memphis, meanwhile is 23 of 48 from the floor and they're getting excellent work from Purdue's Zach Edey, who has settled in nicely in his return to the state with 13 points on 6 of 9 shooting. The Grizzlies are averaging 1.16 points per possession.

Myles Turner has had some good moments even though guarding Edey has been a handful. He has 12 points on seven rebounds. Andrew Nembhard has 10 points.

    Grizzlies 53, Pacers 42, 2:05 second quarter

Zach Edey and Myles Turner are having a pretty fun battle inside. Edey has 13 points and has had some really good moves. Turner has forced Edey to try to step out and guard him and Turner has 10 points and seven rebounds. Pacers still struggling at 15 of 36 from the floor, though.

Grizzlies 31, Pacers 17, end of first quarter

Zach Edey checked in at the six-minute mark of the first quarter, got a significant cheer on his arrival and more thanks to three first quarter buckets. The first was a hook shot out of a double team. The second was an easy dunk off a drive-and-dish from point guard Yuki Kawamura. The last was on a spectacular spin move. He has six points and two rebounds at the end of the first.

Meanwhile, the Pacers made just six of 19 first-quarter field goals and posted 0.72 points per possession to the Grizzlies' 1.26.

    Grizzlies 15, Pacers 5; 6:02 first quarter

The shaken-up lineup doesn't look great out of the gate on either end. On offense the Pacers are 2 of 9 from the floor and 1 of 6 for 3 with Andrew Nembhard's 3-pointer making up more than half the total scoring. On defense, they're lumbering about and Memphis is taking advantage. Grizzliers are 6 of 14 from the floor, but 3 of 6 from 3 getting some open ones on slow rotation.
