AUBURN, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — Starting on Tuesday, Oct. 15, the Auburn Enlarged City School District will be implementing a new cell phone policy for students.

All students K-12 will not be allowed to have their phones out during the entire school day from arrival to dismissal.

Students can have their phones with them, but they must be turned off and silenced and should not be seen, according to a letter from the district.

The district stated that many students have had their phones out during instructional time, which has resulted in significant distractions.

Students also having their phones at lunch has contributed to negative social media interactions, leading to physical conflict and emotional distress in some cases, the district said.
