SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — They call themselves the Road Warriors. The Institute of Technology at Syracuse Central football team has never played a game in a stadium they can call home.

“We have to travel,” Head Coach Raquan Pride-Green said. “They don’t always get the support from their classmates that other teams get because we have to go across town or out of the county for the away games.”

The team practices on a grass field behind ITC. It’s only 60 yards long and doesn’t have goalposts. Plus the varsity team shares half of the 60-yard field with junior varsity.

“It’s not a full-length or width. So, the numbers and hashes are a little off. We’re yelling at them about alignment during the game, not realizing that all week they had a tighter field to work with,” Pride-Green said.

The new stadium will seat 2,000 fans. Construction is scheduled to begin as soon as the snow melts in 2025 and is expected to be completed in Fall 2025. Ground has not been broken yet, but the Eagles’ pride is already soaring.

“It’s a blessing, finally,” junior quarterback Tyquanne Harris said. “All we hear is ‘ITC don’t got a field,’ and now we finally got one.”

The new stadium is also a part of the redevelopment of the 15th Ward. In addition to the stadium, the project will add a new playground and walking path for the community to use. It will be a stadium in the neighborhood where friends and family can easily watch their student-athletes play.

“Most people have to worry about a ride to go to even our closest game. Now, they can just come outside after school,” Harris said.

Plus, the new stadium could raise enrollment.

“It will also attract other kids. Some of the things that they say is ‘You should come to ITC’ and the response is ‘Well, you don’t even have a home field.’ We won’t have that issue to deal with any longer,” said Pride-Green.

Ultimately, the new stadium will give players and students something to be proud of.

“It’s an immense sense of pride,” Director of Athletics for Syracuse City School District Jesse Long said. “It’s going to uplift them completely. The entire student body, the athletes there, and build that team and school spirit as we’re going.”

The new stadium will finally give this team a field to call home.

UN FREAKING BELIEVABLE!!!!!! A new stadium???!!! And who’s paying for that? In reality, how many kids play sports in school and how many students will utilize that stadium as opposed to the total enrollment, maybe 20% at most, and that’s a very generous percentage!
