    Jefferson County man dies after early Monday morning vehicle accident

    RODMAN, N.Y. (WWTI) – A 24-year-old Watertown man is dead after a crash Monday morning in the town of Rodman.

    New York State Police responded around 2:20 a.m, to County Route 155 in the town of Rodman for a personal injury accident.

    Traffic Alert: Work on Coffeen Street Railroad Crossing

    A preliminary investigation found that a 2017 Nissan Sentra operated by Chase Obrien from was traveling south on County Route 155 at an unsafe speed.

    According to authorities, the vehicle went off the western shoulder of the roadway and struck a utility pole.

    Obrien was transported to Samaritan Medical Center by South Jefferson Rescue Squad and was listed in critical condition before passing form his injuries.

    Two passengers of the vehicle, 20-year-old Austin Sunderland of Sackets Harbor and 17-year-old Matthew Grimshaw of Adams declined medical attention on scene and went to Samaritan Medical Center on their own for evaluation.

    State police said that charges are pending the outcome of the ongoing investigation.
