Which food services passed or failed their health inspection: Sept. 29 – Oct. 5

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — The Onondaga County Health Department released its inspection reports for restaurants checked from September 29 through October 5.

One food service failed their inspection:

• Happy Garden – 2265 Downer Street Road, Baldwinsville

This restaurant received eight violations, three of which were in critical condition.

Improper cooling and refrigerated storage of potentially hazardous foods (critical): The inspector found a medium bowl of cooked egg rolls on the cook line at 69 degrees Fahrenheit. According to the cook, the food was cooked an hour and a half before the inspector saw it. The chicken is to be cooked (reheated) again in the deep fryer to fill orders. That was room-temperature storage.

It was corrected, enough food was removed to fill the order, and the remaining was put into the walk-in cooler.

One small food pan of minced garlic and oil was found on the cook line at 71.8 degrees Fahrenheit. That is room temperature storage.

It was corrected and the garlic and oil were voluntarily thrown out.

This violation was found two times.

Improper cooling and refrigerated storage of potentially hazardous foods (critical): The inspector found the flip-top cooler was not working to keep potentially hazardous foods at 45 degrees Fahrenheit or below. The ambient temperature in the bottom cabinet was found at 55 degrees Fahrenheit. Food in the bottom and top portions of the cabinet are found at the following respective temperatures for two hours:

• One-half food pan of raw shrimp at 53 degrees Fahrenheit
• One-third food pan cut pork 52 degrees Fahrenheit
• Three cups cooked cut-up chicken 53 degrees Fahrenheit
• One-half food pan-cooked shrimp at 51 degrees Fahrenheit
• One-half food pan raw beef 49 degrees Fahrenheit
• 10 sticks of crab meat 54 degrees Fahrenheit
• 14 whole shell eggs 55 degrees Fahrenheit
• Two lbs. cooked chicken at 56 degrees Fahrenheit
• One-half food pan-cooked beef 52 degrees Fahrenheit
• Eight raw chicken wings 53 degrees Fahrenheit
• Three cups water chestnuts in water 53 degrees Fahrenheit

This was corrected and te foods were voluntarily thrown out.

Food not protected in general: The inspector found single-service items used as scoops in bulk products lack handles. Several scoops were placed in bulk products with the handles touching the product. Several food pans double stacked in the flip-top cooler without hard covers.

This violation was found three times.

Poor sanitary design, construction, installation of equipment and utensils : The inspector found cardboard lining many shelves that was not smooth and not easily cleanable.
