SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — Syracuse firefighters responded to a fire at 153 Seymour Street around 5:30 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 17.

When firefighters arrived on scene, they found a vacant, five-story apartment building was on fire. The fire was showing from multiple floors, according to SFD.

Firefighters began to stretch hoses into the building and take off the plywood covering the windows.

Crews did find the fire inside the building, but due to the deteriorating conditions, a previous fire that had weakened the building’s structure, and almost all of the windows being boarded up, firefighters decided to fight the fire from the outside, SFD said.

Once most of the fire had been extinguished, crews went back into the building to put out hot spots.

Firefighters were on the scene for six hours to put out the fire, clear smoke, pack up equipment and assist investigators, said SFD.

No civilians or fire fighters were injured in the blaze.

The building suffered fire, smoke and water damage. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
