INGLESIDE, Ill. — A crash involving a Metra train in the far north suburbs left one person dead on Monday morning.

According to the Lake County Coroner’s Office, the crash unfolded just after 7:30 a.m. on the train tracks near the intersection of North Wilson Road and West Larkin Lane, in Ingleside.

Officials said when emergency crews arrived on the scene, they found a heavily damaged vehicle that had been knocked off the roadway.

The diver of the vehicle was badly injured in the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The coroner’s office later identified the victim as 70-year-old Randy Koppen, a McHenry resident.

An Autopsy was performed later in the day and it was determined that Koppen died from blunt force injuries as a result of the crash.
