For several weeks, ‘Skippy’ has been fostered by Tina Spears in Aransas Pass, founder of a new animal advocacy group, Ingleside Animal Friends, finding permanent adoptive homes for pets in the temporary care of the Ingleside Animal Shelter. A dog in the temporary care of the Ingleside Animal Shelter has left south Texas, bound for its new adoptive family in Washington state. None of it would have been possible without the attention and compassion of a network of mostly San Patricio County-based pet foster organizations, including one started by an Aransas Pass resident who founded Ingleside Animal Friends. The group has its own Facebook page ( https://www . facebook.com/profile. php?id=6155533 7706086).

“He’s going to Granite Falls, WA,” shared Tina Spears, 37, discussing the plan that was executed earlier this month to transport ‘Skippy’, a two-year-old terrier mix who endured shelter life in Ingleside, followed by a foster stay in her Aransas Pass home until permanent owners could be found.

“He’ll get to go to work with his new dad every day,” she added, revealing the transfer occurred on Thursday, February 8th.

Spears’ two young children have become attached to ‘Skippy’ while he was in their foster care. Her son Carter wrote a letter accompanying the new dog for when it arrives to be with its new owners. Daughter Emma did the same.

“Dear Skippy’s new parents,” Carter’s handwritten note began. “Hope you love Skippy as much as I do. His favorite toy was a little stuffed elephant,” he added.

“He doesn’t like to be picked up,” Carter also wrote. “He might not bark a lot. He loves… LOVES looking out windows. P.S.: He’s a very good dog,” the young boy concluded.

“He likes playing,” wrote Emma. “When he’s going, he gets hyper,” the child’s note continued.

“He loves his bacon treats,” Emma noted. “He likes toys, but he sometimes pulls all the stuffing out.”

The last two sentences express the attachment Emma had for ‘Skippy’, and how much he’ll be missed.

“I hope you have fun,” Emma expressed. “P.S.: He loves to be on the couch and cuddle.”

‘Skippy’ was Spears’ first foster, but it won’t be her last. A former Animal Control Officer with the Ingleside Police Department, she is hoping to recruit many like herself who will give their time and energy to provide temporary placement for shelter pets as their journey to permanent homes begins.
