    Lady Panthers advance to area playoffs

    Jocelyn Cole’s 28 points led the Aransas Pass Lady Panthers to a 61-35 Class 3A bi-district playoff win over the Kingsville Santa Gertrudis Academy Lady Lions on Feb. 13 at Corpus Christi West Oso.

    The win improved the Lady Panthers to 20-15 and advanced them to the area playoffs against the Lyford Lady Bulldogs (30-6). Lyford defeated Edinburg IDEA Quest College Prep 96-9 in the bi-district round.

    Aransas Pass trailed Santa Gertrudis Academy 15-10 after one quarter of play. But the Lady Panthers outscored the Lady Lions 18-6 in the second quarter to go into halftime with a 2821 lead.

    Cole made four 3-pointers. Lauren Barker added 10 points, including a pair of 3-pointers.

    Also helping the Lady Panthers were Elora Pierre with six points, Raina Scott with five, Miranda Flores with four, and Melanie Castillo with one.

    Lady Panthers get top playoff seed The Aransas Pass Lady Panthers rolled past the George West Lady Horns 44-25 on Feb. 8 in Taft to capture the No. 1 playoff seed in District 29-3A.

    Aransas Pass, George West, and Goliad tied for first place with 8-2 district records, which forced the three teams to compete in a threeway tournament to determine playoff seeding.

    George West later beat Goliad to capture the No. 2 seed.

    Aransas Pass held a slim 4-2 lead after the first quarter and went into halftime with a 1714 advantage. The Lady Panthers pulled away in the third quarter by outscoring the Lady Horns 19-5 and entering the fourth quarter with a 36-19 lead.

    Jocelyn Cole topped Aransas Pass with 18 points, including three 3-pointers.

    Elora Pierre had 10 points, Laurean Baker followed with seven, Melanie Castillo tossed in four, and Aubree Leal tallied two. Miranda Flores, Raina Scott, Kyra DeLosSantos each scored one point.
