Veteran of The Week - David Issacs
MONTGOMERY, TX -- This week’s Veteran is David Issacs, who served in the US Army as a Warrant Officer 4 AH-1 Cobra Attack Helicopter pilot from 1968 - 1988. David was drafted, initially obtaining field artillery training at Fort Sill, OK, and spent his first tour in Vietnam as an enlisted man. Afterwards, he was sent to helicopter flight school in Fort Wolters, TX, then onto Fort Rucker, AL, and Savannah, GA before his second tour in Vietnam, as a Cobra Helicopter pilot. After Vietnam had duty stations in TX, GA, VA, and Nurnberg, Germany. In Saudi Arabia, he flew fixed wing C-12 Military Passenger and Transport Aircraft, and also back in Georgia. Issacs served 20 years in the Army. After retirement, he moved back to Corpus Christi and worked at the Corpus Christi Army Depot as a civil-service test pilot for 10 years where he flew the Sea Hawk, Black Hawk, and Cobras. A tragic pattern echoes across the waters of Lake Corpus Christi, where for the second time in as many weeks, a life has been lost. San Patricio County Sheriff Oscar Rivera confirmed the body of a 19-year-old man from Robstown was recovered Sunday evening following a distressing incident involving a pontoon boat. KSAT reported that "Initial reports was that a young man may have fallen from a pontoon boat, went under & did not surface," a haunting reminder of the lake's recent history.
Lifeguard saves teen swimmer at Hurricane Alley
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A teenage swimmer was rescued by lifeguards after being found face down in the lazy river at Hurricane Alley. According to Operating Owner William Durrill, a lifeguard noticed the teen, and after pulling the swimmer out of the water, began CPR and lifesaving measures with other lifeguards on duty.
Bond set for suspect after leading police on pursuit in Corpus Christi
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A male driver arrested after leading police on a pursuit was booked into the Nueces County Jail late Monday afternoon. John Sydney Park, a 41-year-old from Corpus Christi, is currently held on a $25,000 bond for an aggravated robbery warrant. He also faces a felony charge of evading police using a vehicle and a second robbery charge, with both felonies pending bond. Park will remain in the Nueces County Jail.
