Dr. Wyche T. Coleman appointed as deputy surgeon general of Louisiana
SHREVEPORT, La. - Louisiana has a new deputy surgeon general. Dr. Wyche T. Coleman III is an ophthamologist and cataract surgeon with Willis Knighton Eye Institute. Coleman grew up in Louisiana. He studied at the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in Shreveport. Coleman completed his medical education and ophthalmology residency there. His clinical expertise includes advanced cataract surgery, LASIK, PRK, and the management of chronic eye conditions.

Lakeshore failed to put its best foot forward during its jamboree against Slidell, but the Titans made up for lost time in a hurry. After fumbling the ball away on its first series, Lakeshore dominated the rest of the way en route to a 23-0 victory at Titan Coliseum on Aug. 30.
Symphony League honors senior class of Les Jeunes Amies de la Symphonie at fall luncheon
Twenty senior members of Les Jeunes Amies de la Symphonie were guests of honor at the Baton Rouge Symphony League’s fall luncheon Aug. 25 at the Baton Rouge Country Club. The young women will be presented during the Symphony League’s Bal de la Symphonie on Dec. 14 at Crowne Plaza.
Parkview Baptist School’s Eagle Experience Out of This World Art Camp
Students had a blast at Parkview Baptist School’s Eagle Experience Out-of-this-World Art Camp. Students explored a wide variety of media and space-based subjects and learned basic elements of design skills. Some of the crowd favorite stellar experiences included sculpting aliens with clay, creating gelli prints for plants, and glow-in-the-dark tie-dye. Each camper was able to create 10 cosmic masterpieces to take home.
Celebrating the Success of ExxonMobil High School Interns at Closing Program
Forty high school students from the greater Baton Rouge area celebrated the conclusion of their summer internships with ExxonMobil’s High School Internship Program. During the closing ceremony, the interns presented their final projects that they had worked on during their tenure. The interns were placed in several different pathways such as engineering, information technology, laboratory sciences, project management, environmental stewardship, mechanical operations, and pipeline and terminal management. The program consisted of a diverse group of rising juniors, seniors, and recent graduates that originated from 23 schools across eight school systems in the Capital Region. They acquired new skills, participated in hands-on projects, gained insights into operational processes, adhered to safety standards, and contributed to community service initiatives—all while earning competitive compensation exceeding $18 per hour.

Khamari Brooks is a 6-foot-4, 220-pound, defensive lineman from Loganville where he plays for North Oconee High School. The North Oconee Titans are 2-0 on the season and had a bye week this week. BATON ROUGE --- Pelican State Credit Union is inviting teachers in their branch communities to enter the 2024 Teacher Bulletin Board Contest for a chance to win up to $350!. Interested teachers should submit a photo of their bulletin board or classroom door by September 30. Voting opens on October 1, and the submission with the most votes in each of Pelican’s branch communities will win $250, with the top three entries receiving an extra $100.
