I spent $5,700 to fly in British Airways' business-class suites. I've never had so much privacy on a plane before.

I spent almost eight hours in British Airways' business-class Club Suite.
    • I flew in British Airways ' business-class Club Suite for a long-haul flight for the first time.
    • My seat felt incredibly private, had direct aisle access, and plenty of legroom.
    • My in-flight food and drinks were excellent and I had a five-star experience.

I've flown business class with a few airlines, but I recently did so for the first time with British Airways.

I booked a Club Suite in its long-haul business-class cabin, Club World, for my almost-eight-hour flight from Heathrow in London to Logan International in Boston.

The Club Suite debuted in 2019 as part of the airline's almost $9 billion investment in upgrading its passenger experience. The suites aren't on every British Airways flight, though the carrier plans to have them on all of its Heathrow-based long-haul aircraft by the end of 2026.

The business-class suite cost $5,700 — more than double what a seat in economy was going for at the time I booked. Here's why the upgrade was worth it.

The British Airways business-class suites felt incredibly private and spacious.

I liked that the seats in business class all had direct aisle access

When I got on the plane, I was greeted with a glass of Champagne, an amenity kit, and a brief rundown of how to use the features of my seat.

My seat was inside a suite with walls on all sides, meaning I couldn't see any of my fellow passengers once I closed the door next to me. The space had a large screen and lots of nooks where I could store my personal items. I had plenty of legroom, too.

Each suite had direct aisle access , which was a major perk. I hate having to climb over or disturb people to access the aisle if I need to use the bathroom.

Once my suite's door was closed and the movies began rolling, I didn't even feel like I was in the sky. No one could see me, and I couldn't see them — luxury!

The amenity kit had everything I needed for a long flight.

I received an amenity kit from The White Company.

The amenity kit was specially designed by The White Company, a luxury UK lifestyle brand.

It came with comfy socks, lip balm, moisturizer, and an eye mask — everything I needed to feel comfortable on a long flight .

Both the food and the presentation of it were worthy of five stars.

My in-flight meal was served on a tablecloth.

About an hour into the flight, meal service began. I was able to choose a main course, which was also served with a starter, dessert, and cheese pairing.

I enjoyed my mixed-cheese starter, soup, chicken pot pie, and chocolate mousse. The chicken pot pie especially stood out — it was perfectly prepared.

My food was beautifully served atop a tablecloth with real plates and silverware. Throughout the flight, I was also able to enjoy drinks from a menu of craft cocktails.

Later, I almost felt like I was in a real bed.

Later, I adjusted my seat and felt like I was in a real bed.

My seat came with a mattress topper and duvet that helped upgrade my lie-flat seat .

When it was time to sleep, I was a little apprehensive about how much space I'd actually have when the seat was converted into a bed.

To my surprise, I was able to move around quite a bit and didn't feel constrained at all — I almost felt like I was in a real bed.

Before I went to sleep, I lifted up my suite door to give myself even more privacy and so that the crew wouldn't disturb me during the flight.

I think this upgrade is excellent for long flights.

I would give my British Airways business-class experience five stars.

Was it worth $5,700 to fly in Club World? Since this was a long-haul flight, absolutely.

Though I've flown business class on numerous airlines before, I was really impressed by the level of privacy I felt in the British Airways Club Suite.

I'd never felt so secluded in the air and loved not having other passengers looking over at me or crew members disturbing me while I slept.

Relaxing in a private suite with a door and lay-flat seat while being served free-flowing cocktails and a multicourse meal was pure luxury.
