Ever wish you could see a giant panda in a zoo in the United States? For the first time in 21 years, this will soon be possible again! To see these adorable pandas, you’ll need to take a trip to the San Diego Zoo starting on August 8. This is when their two giant pandas, Yun Chuan and Xin Bao, will be available to the public. That said, employees were already given a preview of the exhibit, and one of them is sharing it with us!

Erika Kohler, the San Diego Zoo senior vice president and executive director, writes that the Panda Ridge exhibit is an “expansive and multidimensional experience… inspired by famous geological formations in China, emulating the mountainous forest ecosystems where giant pandas thrive while immersing you into their world.”

@cinnabunbean Pandas are back! Got to check out the newly redone Panda Ridge area at @San Diego Zoo during an employee preview! We had time to view the pandas, have refeshments, and even got cute tshirts to commemorate the reopening of Panda Ridge. The pandas will be available to public viewing starting August 8th. There will be a standby queue and virtual reservation system, so do your research before heading over!! @amelia #americasfinestpandas #pandiego #pandemonium #sandiegozoo #CapCut ♬ Echos in My Mind (Lofi) – Muspace Lofi

At one point, giant pandas were considered Endangered. There were fewer than 1,000 of them both in the wild and captivity. But thanks to the efforts of places like the U.S. and China, we’re seeing great improvements. In fact, there are now more than 1,800 pandas, making them Vulnerable rather than Endangered.

Having China loan these pandas to the U.S. aids in the effort to save these beautiful animals . So, in the end, everyone wins from this exciting exhibit! For more information, and to get tickets, you can visit the zoo’s website .

“For 30 years, we’ve worked alongside our Chinese conservation partners to save, protect and care for giant pandas and their ecosystems,” Erika says . “And now we have the opportunity to continue caring for and conserving these incredible bears as we expand on our transformative work to secure a future for their species.”
