Nelly And Ashanti Welcome Their First Baby And Announce Name On Social Media

They reunited after a decade apart, and now one of the hottest couples from the mid-2000s has a new baby to love. Ashanti, 43, and her husband, Nelly, 49, welcomed a baby boy named Kareem Kenkaide Haynes on July 18. His parents are totally in love with little “KK.”

The new mom shared with Entertainment Tonight the baby’s name has a sweet meaning.

“His dad named him with a lot of pride,” Ashanti shared.

“Kenkaide is a tribute to her own father’s name and Kareem meaning generous, kind, and dignified spoke to the couple,” ET added.

Although the couple never confirmed when KK was actually due, his mom told ET Nelly had to get on a last-minute flight to get home. Nelly was performing on Together Again tour this summer with Janet Jackson and had dates throughout June and July. Thankfully, he made it just in time.

“Having all of us in the delivery room and seeing his face for the first time, I cried it was just so emotional and spiritual at the same time,” Ashanti told the publication. “Having a vision of this moment for so long…it was such an electrifying feeling.”

Ashanti Is Embracing The Fourth Trimester

KK is the first baby for Ashanti, who is rocking the postpartum period. She teased KK’s arrival earlier today with a post on Instagram showing off her curves,

“Funny how life’s plans aren’t…always on time.. lol. I’ve been waiting to be a mom for a long time now but nothing could prepare me for EVERYTHING motherhood brings! This is what postpartum looks like. I’m loving these super cozy @fridamom shorts! I’m so proud of my body for giving me my baby, baby, baby, baby, baby.”

Nelly has some dad experience, but it’s been a while since he’s had a baby around. He has a daughter, Chanelle, who goes by Nana, 30, and a son, Cornell Haynes III, 25, who goes by Tre. Nelly also helped raise his sister’s two children, Sydney and Shawn, after she died from Leukemia in 2005.
