In Manchester, England, they have published a list of things you can do to combat loneliness . If you’re on the US side of the pond, you might find answers at the Singing Beach in Manchester, Massachusetts. Known as Manchester-by-the-Sea, this beach does have sand that “sings.”

The Singing Beach is small compared to other beaches — only about a half-mile wide. It has public restrooms, changing facilities, and a small, privately run canteen. The original construction of the buildings was in the early 1920s, but there are upgrades, such as a baby changing station.

Parking at the Singing Beach only has 120 spaces, but the cost is $30, and they only accept cash or checks. Additional parking is available at Masconomo Park. If you park elsewhere, there is a walk-on fee to access the beach, with daily and seasonal rates available. You can take dogs, but visitors should review all the rules before packing Fido into the car. Now that you’ve heard the worst of it let’s discuss why you should still visit.

An added benefit is that It is less crowded than public beaches. The unique properties of the sand make this beach memorable. The sand must be dry to “sing,” so you’ll likely hear it farther from the water.

Although no one is 100 percent certain how the sand “sings,” some plausible explanations exist . The sound might result from nearly round grains of quartz sand that are much the same size rubbing together. As you walk over the sand, vibrations from your movements cause the grains of sand to glide over one another. The Manchester-by-the-Sea Singing Beach derives its name from this phenomenon.

Please share and add the Singing Beach to your bucket list !
