Baby Beaver Gets Extra Sassy When Mom Puts A Shirt On Her

Raising orphaned baby beavers is time-consuming, expensive, and exhausting, but that doesn’t stop Holley Muraco. She and her family operate a beaver sanctuary with Woodside Wildlife Rescue in Mississippi. We first met Holley and one of her little charges last June. Tulip is an adorable baby beaver that loves bananas . Today, Tulip is battling a skin infection and other health problems. Due to her early health problems, she has stunted growth and will remain tiny.

As you can see, the tiny beaver is wearing an infant onesie that fits her perfectly! The clothing helps to keep Tulip from grooming with medicated ointments on, which allows the medicine to work. When Holley first dressed Tulip, she was not fond of the shirt. Once the skin condition clears, little Tulip can run around nekkie again. Holley has been working with orphaned baby beavers since 2020 and holds a PhD in marine mammals . She admits that the little critters can be demanding and hard to raise.

In Mississippi, beavers are considered a “nuisance” animal , and state laws allow hunters to kill beavers on sight. Like Tulip’s parents, many beaver parents head out foraging for food and never return for their young.

At the time of her rescue, the tiny baby beaver had pneumonia and bumblefoot. Her skin infection developed due to immune system issues. She would have died without the intervention of Holley and other humans at the Beaver Sanctuary. Now, she is thriving and eating lots of banana treats!
