Any parent will tell you that balancing family and a career is no easy task. We want to be there for our kids as much as we can, and sometimes, it takes some creativity. And that’s just for us regular folks. Talk to stars in Hollywood, and some will tell you that they’ve given up starring roles to be with their kids. People like Michael Keaton have no regrets about doing it.

Michael has appeared in some of our favorite movies, like Mr. Mom, Batman , and Beetlejuice , which has a sequel out this weekend . While we love watching Michael on screen, he also loves being a dad. His son, Sean Douglas, means so much to him that he turned down big roles and even bigger paychecks for fatherhood.

Michael Keaton Would Do It All Over Again

The Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice star told People that his penchant for turning down roles earned him the nickname “Dr. No.” But that didn’t matter to him. He wanted to be with Sean and now spends time with his grandkids, River and Maggie. Michael says kids are only kids for a short time, and he doesn’t want to miss out.

“You look back, and you go, ‘Zero regret. Zero, zero,'” he told the publication. “That’s not to say if I’ll see a movie that I didn’t do, and I go, ‘Oh, boy. That turned out to be a good movie.’ But the choice was always the correct choice. I always wanted to be a dad.”

Michael Keaton adores Sean and says he’s a good dad, and his late mom, Caroline McWilliams, was an equally fantastic parent.

“I will take credit for being a good father. I will give his mom enormous credit for being a tremendous mom. Great, great, great mom,” he said. “And that’s why he’s a good kid.”

Michael added that Sean is special and that being his dad is a gift.

“But also, you know what it is? It’s him. I think there’s something in some people that’s just in them. I mean, there’s no question, parenting is not just important, it’s key, right? But sometimes there’s just something in certain people. So, the rest of the credit I give to him. He just is built a certain way, always was. Sweet guy, thoughtful.”
