Dogs classified as “hound dogs” come in a wide variety. Although most hound dogs are intelligent and can learn tricks, they all have peculiarities. Coon hounds are the lazy dogs you see laying on the porches of ramshackle cabins out in the boonies. You’ve seen them — the kind of dog you check for breathing because they haven’t moved in 48 hours. When you teach a hound dog tricks, they move at their own pace.

As a good friend once said; lower your expectations . Dogs have different brains, different builds and different muscle composition that means tricks from one dog to the next may never look quite exact. When training look for a fluid understanding of the behavior over perfect duplication of a trick you’ve seen other dogs do. #dogtraining #hounddog #tricktraining #dogtricks #malinois #blackandtancoonhounds

As you can see in the video, even a hound dog with good training does tricks at their own pace. No, they did not slow the speed of the video down. That’s just a normal coon hound moving at an average coon hound pace. Nothing is quick unless it involves devouring a bowl of food in seconds.

The original poster of this speedy video is the human part of Hounds & Bean on TikTok . She has several coon hounds and fosters a variety of other breeds. Coon hounds and bloodhounds are famous for their fabulously droopy ears.

Although hound dogs are capable of learning tricks, training is difficult . It requires a lot of repetition, diligence, and daily work with them. For years, they were bred to hunt, so if it doesn’t involve hunting or food, it is a new experience for them.

There are many different types of hound dogs. Basset hounds are short and stout, with ears nearly dragging the ground. Beagles are energetic. Blue heelers , or Australian cattle dogs, are herders but are often confused with hounds. Many people think coon hounds are lazy, but they are faithful and loyal animals with hearts as big as their ears. They are excellent family dogs and love kids. They just move slow.
