Joshua “Josh the Intern” McCartney is an explorer with a vast portfolio. His standard modus operandi is to find something unique and exciting on Google Earth. He travels to the location in real life, giving viewers a firsthand look at weird and sometimes spooky places. While hiking recently, Josh found the concealed entrance to a secret tunnel.

I was not meant to find this place! While hiking through a forest I came across this overgrown entrance that led underground. Heading inside to explore it I found myself in a maze of long tunnels and secret rooms! This is definitely one of the creepiest abandoned places I have explored! #abandonedplaces #abandoned #urbex #exploring #creepy

In the caption, Josh mentions that he wasn’t meant to find this secret tunnel. The explorer in him would not allow him to continue his hike without further exploration. As he approaches the hole, you glimpse a staircase descending into a dark abyss.

There was debris at the base of the steps and an eerie whistling sound, just within Josh’s hearing range. It was pretty creepy, indeed, but Josh proceeded to descend the steps to meet his destiny. Perhaps the eeriest thing during this video is the absence of graffiti and no sign of previous explorers. Josh traveled through a long tunnel, passing several large metal doors. Finally, he passed through a massive metal door into another long tunnel before finding any sign that people had been there.

Josh continued walking through the secret tunnel, which eventually branched out into several rooms. Nothing in the tunnel or chambers gave Josh any hint as to the purpose of the underground structure. When he was deep into the structure, he found one thing he recognized — toilets.

What Is The Purpose Of The Secret Tunnel?

While we can only speculate about the purpose of this system of secret underground tunnels, it is curious that there are very few signs that other explorers have discovered them. At the end of the secret tunnel, Josh found the first signs of previous habitation (other than toilets). There were several rooms and a massive door that appeared blown open. Another staircase led up, which led Josh to a different point in the forest than where he entered. What an adventure !

If you want more of Josh the Intern’s adventures, follow him on YouTube , TikTok , Facebook , or Instagram . You can subscribe (this one costs money) to his Patreon account to access hidden gems and secret places. These are the adventures he doesn’t share on social media.

Old fallout shelter possibly from the Cold War. In the 50s we practice the duck and covered in schools and to be aware where the fallout shelters sign are located..people were paranoid of war. Just in my town I grew up in we had a few missiles silos on the out skits of the city..They are all gone now..
