When severe weather hits, families must take care of themselves and their animals. We often think about domesticated pets like cats and dogs, but the reality is farm animals need help, too. Sara Weldon and Rick Bass run a farm in Florida, and when they realized that Hurricane Milton was on the way, they knew they had to keep their animals safe. Leaving them outside in the elements was too risky, so they decided to bring some of them inside . That included their beloved tiny donkey, Cash.

The Couple Knew They Had To Protect Their Animals

Sara tearfully shared their decision to bring their donkey inside during Hurricane Milton on the family’s TikTok @oursimplehomestead .

“We are in the direct path of where this hurricane is supposed to hit. We’re not evacuating. And please, don’t ask me to,” she cried.

“All these animals are our children.”

Sara and Rick have more than 560,000 devoted followers on TikTok who checked in on them during the storm. Sara shared that they had lost a single rooster, but everyone else had survived and was OK. The farm sustained some damage from fallen trees and the loss of electricity, but for the most part, it was minimal.

Sara shared, “Finally able to give an update on the last 24 hours thank you all for the messages and love. It’s amazing how disconnected you feel from the world without power or phones.”

A fan wrote, “I literally couldn’t sleep last night thinking about all of the animals. I am so happy everyone is OK. I am so sorry about your rooster.”

This person also kept a watchful eye on social media for updates. “I think I was more worried about you guys than anyone else. I am beyond relieved that you’re all OK.”

As did this fan. “Lady you don’t have an idea of how much happiness it’s for me to have this update informing that all of you are OK. Lots of hugs and blessings for all at home.”
