You don’t have to live where hurricanes hit to know that this year’s hurricane season has been particularly rough. Between Hurricane Helene and Hurricane Milton, millions of folks have found themselves without a place to live . But the struggle of living in areas affected by hurricanes is nothing new. That’s why folks are trying to come up with solutions to make dealing with these dangerous storms easier.

One way is with hurricane-proof houses, as impossible as this may sound. In fact, there are already two communities in Florida that are proving it to be quite a success. There is Babcock Ranch near Fort Myers and Hunters Point in Cortez. Both are solar-powered and made to withstand powerful winds, including those often found in hurricanes. Learn more in the video below.

Is it Possible to Create a Hurricane-Proof House? These Two Communities in Florida Prove the Answer is “Yes!”

As you might imagine, a lot of thought goes into creating a hurricane-proof house. Both strong winds and flooding have to be taken into account. Luckily, with power transmission lines underground and wetlands to collect water, these communities were in good shape for Helene and Milton. In fact, both made it out with little to no damage!

Needless to say, there are lots of folks who are interested in these communities. But a common sentiment shared by those in the comment section is the need for these types of homes to become more common, and accessible, for others.

“Make this a new law when it comes to new construction in places like this,” someone in the comments suggests, with another taking note that , “It’s a beautiful community.”
