Apple launched the new iPhone 16 series, with the company’s new artificial (AI) technology, Apple Intelligence, on September 9.

Apple Intelligence is the company’s personal intelligence system for iPhone, iPad, and Mac that delivers intelligence by combining the power of generative models with personal context.

The AI tools are integrated into iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia.

    Apple Intelligence

Apple says Apple Intelligence enhances the user’s writing and communication more effectively.

The users can rewrite, proofread, and summarise text in mail, notes, pages, and third-party apps.

With Rewrite, Apple Intelligence allows users to choose from different versions of their writing, adjusting the tone to suit the audience and task at hand.

From finessing a cover letter to adding humor and creativity to a party invitation, Rewrite helps deliver the right words.

It also helps proofread by checking grammar, word choice, and sentence structure while suggesting edits—along with explanations of the edits—that users can review or quickly accept.

With Summarize, users can select text and have it recapped in a digestible paragraph, bulleted key points, a table, or a list.

In addition to writing, Apple Intelligence powers image creation capabilities. With Image Playground, users can create fun images in seconds, choosing from three styles: Animation, Illustration, or Sketch.

With Image Playground, users can choose from a range of concepts from categories like themes, costumes, accessories, and places; type a description to define an image; choose someone from their photo library to include in their image; and pick their favorite style .

Apple Intelligence also helps generate customized emojis. By simply typing a description, their Genmoji appears, along with additional options.

Users can even create Genmojis of friends and family based on their photos. Just like emojis, Genmoji can be added inline to messages or shared as stickers or reactions in a Tapback.

The AI tool enables users to search for photos and videos on the iPhone. Siri has become more deeply integrated into the system experience, powered by Apple Intelligence.

    A18 Bionic chip

The iPhone 16 models are equipped with the new A18 Bionic chip to boost AI performance on their devices.

The 3nm newly introduced chipset comes with Apple Intelligence support, letting users explore the generative AI world.

Apple claims the A18 is up to 30% faster than the CPU in iPhone 15 and up to 40% faster on GPU.

Created specifically for iPhone 16, the upgraded 16-core neural engine is 2x faster for machine learning.

It is designed to run large generative models with 17% more system memory bandwidth and a 6-core CPU with performance cores and four efficiency cores.

Both the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus operate on iOS 18 out of the box. Apple also introduced the Action Button in the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus, which can be customized for different actions, such as recording, memos, etc.

The Apple iPhone 16 has a 6.1-inch display, while the iPhone 16 Plus features a 6.7-inch display with up to 2,000 nits peak brightness.

The new ‘Camera Control’ button lets users access the camera with just a click and access visual intelligence features.

The Apple iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus sport a 48 MP main lens and a 12 MP ultrawide sensor. It has a 12 MP front camera. The new iPhone 16 and 16 Plus come in ultramarine, teal, and pink, apart from white and black.

Apple iPhone 16 will retail at $799, and the iPhone 16 Plus will start at $899.
