With the start of the 2024 football season on the horizon, Lincoln County Middle School announced Mark Davis as the new head coach of its football team. A Lincoln County native with a deep-rooted passion for the sport, Davis brings a wealth of experience and a commitment to fostering both athletic success and personal growth among his players.

Born and raised in Lincoln County, Davis’s love for football was nurtured from a young age. “Growing up, my dad Tommy Davis and my mom Kaye Davis always had me around football,” Davis reminisces. “Every Friday night, rain or shine, you would find us at the games.”

Following in the footsteps of his older brother Clayton, Davis played football from elementary school through high school, under the guidance of respected coaches Robbie Lucas and Larry French.

Davis’s coaching journey began when his son started playing tackle football in the second grade. “Chris Cooper and I coached together, and I had a great time doing it,” he recalls. Last year, Davis assisted his brother-in-law, Levi Rogers, who took on the head coaching role at Casey County. “I enjoyed every second of it. I’m just eat up with football,” Davis said.

    Vision and Goals

As he steps into his new role, Davis is clear about his vision for the team. “I want our middle school football players to have a fun and successful season. I believe those two things will attract more athletes to the sport,” he explains. His primary goal is straightforward: “Win football games and have fun doing it. But also, to help develop these young men into great individuals.”

    Coaching Philosophy

Davis’s coaching philosophy centers on effort and precision. “My dad always taught me that something worth doing is worth doing right,” he shares. “I emphasize the importance of doing everything right and teaching fundamentals. I want these young men to be disciplined and make the opponent earn every yard.”

    Team Development

Building team chemistry is crucial for Davis. “These young men need to trust their teammates,” he asserts. Many of his players are multi-sport athletes, which aids in quickly forming cohesive units. Assistant coach and offensive coordinator Donovan Dishon, who has coached many of these players at the elementary level, plays a vital role in this development.

    Community and Support

Davis emphasizes the importance of community involvement and support. “It takes everyone to make a successful program,” he states. This includes securing funds, ensuring the boys are well-fed on game days, and having volunteers help with various game-day tasks. Davis extends special thanks to Stuart Underwood for filming their games every Thursday afternoon and appreciates the parents’ role in transporting and supporting their children.

    Coaching Staff

Davis is supported by a dedicated coaching staff, including Boone Walls, Donovan Dishon, Woods Adams, Jason Hurt, and Adam Fitzpatrick. “These men have been an awesome group to work with, and I can’t wait to get the season started.”
