A KROGER shopper warned others about ordering groceries after being overcharged $60 for frozen breakfast burritos.

She immediately called Kroger to try and fix the situation but was told she couldn't get a refund.

Rainy Smith posted in the Interlachen, Florida, Facebook group and urged other shoppers to check their receipts after ordering from the store.

"Watch your bank statement after getting your order," she wrote.

She posted a screenshot of her total, including six eight-packs of frozen burritos priced at $9.99 each.

She gave the delivery driver the items back after showing him the receipt and telling him it wasn't the correct item.

"When I called Kroger about the situation, they refused to listen to me or give me a refund," she added.

Kroger told her that they couldn't find any issues with the order.

Smith said she was shocked at the overcharge because she uses the service often.

"Keep an eye out because if you're overcharged, it's hell to get your money back," she wrote.

In the comments, one shopper said the issue may have been caused by the app's "allow substitutions" option.

"When you have 'allow substitutions' clicked, it will replace them with whatever is the closest match to that product, and you will have to pay the price of the substitutions," they wrote.

Smith may have wanted single frozen burritos, but if she had substitutions allowed, the shopper could have given her the eight-packs instead.

But she had already decided never to go back to Kroger.

"After talking to multiple people yesterday and getting the runaround and being told I wasn't charged, even though I was, I'm fed up," Smith wrote.

"It's too stressful. I'd rather pay someone to take me to Winn Dixie.

    DELIVERY DUD

In 2023, Kroger shopper Jill McCormick placed a typical grocery order totaling $282.

She noticed she hadn't gotten a notification about the order in a while and decided to check on the progress.

Her heart stopped when she saw that the order had been marked as delivered and that she had been charged a whopping $2,783.25.

Not only that, but the order was never delivered.

What to do if you're overcharged

If you are overcharged at a retailer, there are a few ways to get your money back.

If you notice you were charged more than the advertised or posted price, report it to an employee or manager.

Make sure to keep your receipt to show the price difference.

As a shopper, you are entitled to the lowest advertised, posted, or quoted price offered by the store.

If you are charged more than the advertised, posted, or quoted a price, report it to the sales clerk right away. If the sales clerk can’t help, speak to the manager.

Stores must honor a posted price, even if the price has expired.

You are also able to dispute charges with your bank if you notice something suspicious on your statement.

According to Los Angeles County Consumer& Business Affairs

"After trying for an hour, trying to get in touch with someone, they were finally able to get in touch with Instacart to cancel the order because they never canceled the order as the shopper originally told me," she told WCPO.

Kroger initially offered her a $20 gift card to make things right, but that amount was later increased to $250.

The money is important to McCormick, but she's hoping for something more to come out of the experience.

"I'm looking for a fix and outcome. How about we show results so someone else, another family, is not going through this," she said.

Kroger said they ultimately expedited the refund and further apologized for the overcharge.

A third customer was overcharged $280 and said the grocer "didn't care" about getting him a refund.

Another customer said they would never shop at Kroger again after waiting 10 days for a refund.
