New businesses to add dining options in downtown Ithaca
ITHACA, N.Y. — A new restaurant and a deli opening soon are expanding the food options available in downtown Ithaca. The Lotus opened in May on North Aurora Street adjacent to the Commons. The restaurant fills the space that used to be Viva Taqueria which had been vacant since Viva moved across the street in the spring of last year. The Ithaca Deli will open in the old Starbucks location on East Seneca Street.
Ithaca seeks input for DRI grant application
ITHACA, NY (CortacaToday) – The City of Ithaca wants to hear from you. Ithaca is launching an open call for projects as it prepares a new application for the $10 million Downtown Revitalization grant program. Officials say the application will focus on developing the West End, West State/MLK Jr. Street, the Commons, and other areas. The city would like to strengthen connectivity between the waterfront and downtown areas.
SUNY Cortland to showcase concert history during reunion
CORTLAND, NY (CortacaToday) – SUNY Cortland Alumni will gather later this week. Hundreds of Red Dragons are set to make their way into Cortland in the coming days for the annual reunion. A full slate of events is planned beginning Thursday night. Among the scheduled programming and excursions is a deep dive into the history of musical performances at the college. OSWEGO, N.Y. — Three people are facing multiple criminal charges after a large fight broke out on East Tenth Street in Oswego on Sunday, July 7. Oswego Police Department responded to the area of East Tenth and Cayuga Streets in Oswego, arriving officers observed a large fight, which began to disperse with their presence.
Ithaca woman arrested in Owego drug, weapons bust
OWEGO, NY (CortacaToday) — An Ithaca woman is one of three charged in a Tioga County weapons and drug investigation. Sheriff Gary Howard says deputies went to a home in Owego on June 4 to find 42-year-old Samantha McKibbin, who was wanted for violating probation. Inside the house, deputies say they saw drugs in plain sight. Nearly five ounces of meth, a sawed-off shotgun, and 551 dollars in cash were discovered. McKibbin and 47-year-old Dan Perry were charged with multiple felonies.

Red panda cub born at Seneca Park Zoo
Rochester, N.Y. — The Seneca Park Zoo is celebrating the birth of an endangered red panda cub. The zoo's female red panda, Raji, gave birth June 27. “Raji unfortunately abandoned her cub, which is not uncommon for first-born cubs of red pandas," Dr. Chris McKinney, the zoo's veterinarian, said in a statement. "We have made the necessary decision to bottle-feed the cub. The good news is that the cub nursed initially and received colostrum from mom, which is incredibly important to survival.”
