Overnight fire at Novato homeless encampment believed to be arson
An early morning fire Tuesday at least partially destroyed a temporary encampment at Lee Gerner Park in Novato. Novato police said they responded around 3:30 a.m. to a report of a fire near Novato Creek at the park. Police said the fire spread quickly, burning several tents, the perimeter fence, and a large tree in the center of the camp.Residents were evacuated safely and no injuries were reported. Police said firefighters quickly extinguished the fire, preventing it from spreading to nearby businesses. Police said investigators are treating the fire as arson. Stolen Vehicle Chase in Cotati Leads to Juvenile Arrest, Second Suspect at Large
Yesterday morning, Cotati Police Department officers encountered an unexpected situation on Stony Point Road by West Sierra Avenue. An officer pulled over to inspect a suspiciously parked vehicle, and the in-car Automated License Plate Reader system flagged it as stolen. According to the Cotati Police Department, two individuals bolted from the vehicle upon the officer's approach. One suspect, a juvenile with an outstanding arrest warrant, was apprehended. The second subject remains at large despite a collaborative search effort.
Man found guilty of torturing 3 children he took into his Rohnert Park home
A jury found a Rohnert Park man guilty of 11 charges related to the torture of three children under his care, prosecutors said. Jose Centeno was convicted Tuesday of three counts each of torture and kidnapping for ransom related to three victims, as well as eight additional counts related to allegations of rape and sex abuse involving one of the children, identified in court as Jane Doe. Tom Stafford retires from Pacifica School District
All educators and staff should be celebrated for the work they do to prepare our children for the future, but today I want to celebrate one in particular upon his retirement. Tom Stafford came to the Pacifica School District in August, 2002, teaching chorus to every 3rd, 4th and 5th-grader in Pacifica - well over 1,000 students every week. Over the past 22 years he has taken on many roles in the district, working in special education, serving as principal of Linda Mar and Cabrillo Schools, band director, coordinator of visual and performing arts, administrator of special projects, and teaching in 3rd grade and 5th grade classrooms.

Monte Rio Theater to Stay Open Thanks to New Co-Owner
The historic Monte Rio Theater, which nearly closed for good in December, will remain open indefinitely. Owners David and Kim Lockhart announced this after Rachel Price, an archivist and filmmaker, joined the ownership team. Price, who has a passion for preserving history and film, has provided the resources needed to keep the theater running. The theater, housed in a World War II-era Quonset hut, will continue to show a mix of new, independent, and art house films, along with hosting live bands and open mic nights. The Lockharts aim to make the theater a community centerpiece and a thriving part of the West County.

3 Dead After Car Plummets Hundreds of Feet Off California’s Devil's Slide Cliff
A vehicle that plunged 400 feet off of the famed Pacific Coast Highway on has resulted in the death of three individuals, according to authorities. Per the California Highway Patrol, the fatal incident took place on Highway 1 sometime after 11 a.m. local time on Friday, July 26, involving a two-door gray sedan that went off the road and over a cliff. The car ultimately stopped on an embankment south of the Tom Lantos Tunnels, near what's known as the Devil's Slide. The patch of Highway 1, roughly 15 miles south of San Francisco, is known for its hairpin turns and steep seaside cliffs.

Ghost Gun Found on Person Involved in a Large Fight in Santa Rosa
In Santa Rosa news, a fight investigation led to the recovery of a firearm and an arrest. On July 29th, at around 11:40 PM, police responded to a fight involving about 10 people on Montecito Boulevard. Officers discovered the fight was related to domestic violence, and one person was possibly armed with a “Ghost Gun.” Police arrested the domestic violence suspect and interviewed Jordan Tuituku, who admitted to possessing an unregistered firearm. The loaded .45 caliber gun was recovered without incident. Tuituku was booked into Sonoma County Jail on multiple charges, including probation violation.
